Even with all this, I just assume there's no way Holbrook is getting fired this year. But if we don't even make changes at the assistant level...

Does anyone know why Andrew Kitick resigned?

I hope yesterdays series loss was just another nail in the coffin for CH.

Maybe Holbrook will realize he's in over his head, man up, and resign.

I think there is a chance that Holbrook will be back, but only with staff changes and a contract revamping that includes a reduced termination clause. And he should have established goals for 2018 - essentially what happened with Leggett and what is going on with Brownell now.

Question: Why is a failed sacrifice bunt "poor execution" or "bad fundamentals" and a failure to get a hit is not? Neither is easy or automatic. But everyone looks at bunts and expects them to be successful 100% of the time. But a sac bunt in the majors is an out 96% of the time, and only works about 83% of the time. And by working, I mean advancing the runner(s). The lead runner is thrown out 17% of the time, and the result is a DP (one of the reasons most cited for doing the bunt is avoiding the DP) a surprisingly high 8% of the time.

And that is in the majors. It is not "poor execution" or "bad fundamentals" in college, it is the law of averages, just like hitting. Sometimes sac bunts don't work, and that has to be factored into the equation.

Tommy Moody got really excited by Destino's sac bunt in the second, which was almost a hit. After we got our first run, he credited that as the key play of the inning. The runner advanced to Third on a grounder that was a close play at First, then scored on a clean single.

But here is the question - what if Destino just struck out? The runner would have advanced to Second on the deep grounder and scored on the single anyway. To me, the single was the key play of the inning because it allowed the runner to score with two outs, whether he was on Second or Third - the sac bunt was just a wasted out that prevented us from possibly scoring more runs. Destino was considered our best hitter, and still leads with HRs (and he is hitting more lately) so wasting an out makes no sense. That type of thinking - by baseball traditionalists like Moody, and our staff - is the reason that Holbrook is hanging on by a thread.

I can remember a time a few years ago,(2010 to be exact) when our starting second baseman could not buy a hit the last third of the season and Tanner had him bunt almost every at bat. We used to have players that could execute a bunt and even do it consistently for base hits. Now we don't have one that can lay down a decent one if his life depended on it so why even try?
