Had the privilege of coaching this young man for 2 years at Berkeley. Let me tell you this guy is one of a kind. What a special young man! Respectful, hard working, intelligent, athletic, leadership qualities are great. I felt for sure the young man would've gotten some offers, and maybe he did, but I guess he felt this was his best opportunity. Even if he does nothing for us in football in terms of playing in a game, ever, he will instantly make our program better by his presence. I look forward to hearing more from him. He's very talented.

Ra, did he play any other positions at Berkeley besides QB? Berkeley seems to always produce some good athletes. Bruce turned out to be a great WR for us, and he was a QB there.

Just wondering if they're looking at him working at DB or WR?

Walk on QB at the moment. I suspect they will move him at some point depending on how he develops. In high school,
You pretty much put your best athlete at the QB position, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him as a safety or WR in the future.

Pretty good development from his junior year to his senior year just going off the highlight videos.

You see better footwork and better velocity behind the ball.

He strictly played QB for us, but it was a different offense than what he ran his senior year. We were spread option HUNH like Oregon, and this year they were still spread, but I'm not sure what their philosophy was. At any rate, great young man, with a fantastic skill set. Glad to have him part of Gamecock nation.

After watching his senior video, it's hard for me to believe that he didn't receive any offers. He looks like he has the sheer physical talent to play somewhere on offense or even as a return man. The Orth comparison doesn't seem that far-fetched to me.

Agree Clint....he looks as good as some of the other QB recruits that I have watched video of.

I wouldn't doubt if we are bringing him in for goal line packages with his running ability.

Watch3d almost all of his games. He has the arm talent can throw it deep and has a lot of pop on the ball when it leaves his hands. The thing you don't see in highlight videos is how he almost always telegraphed his throw and was the definition of a one read guy. Doesn't mean they won't coach him up, but it explains why maybe colleges stayed away because he was seen as a developmental guy when they maybe were looking for that instant impact.

Definitely will be a project for Kurt Roper to develop into a college QB but he has the tools.

Take a look at his junior highlights to see clearer what bhs is referring to but also remind yourself how much better he looks from his junior year to his senior campaign...

He only played on year under a good coach. He and the whole team made drastic improvements with the staff last year. Would have loved to see his improvements with just 1 more year under Robinson.

I think he got good coaching the whole time. What he probably got more of his senior year was fundamental work versus the other years.

the coaching staff he played under the rest of the time were good men and knew football. But, the style they played warranted less fundamental time and more hurry up no huddle attention. Another issue is that the HC tried to be the OC and QB coach and HC. So, that's difficult to focus on the small things. At any rate, he had good people surrounding him the whole time, he may have benefited from a little more fundamental training this past year.

The Berkeley old timers at Howard's didn't like that previous coach too much!

I don't think it was just the old timers that didn't like him...pretty sure everyone was ready to part ways with him.
