This has to be really tough for McGregor. He has been trained as an MMA fighter and fighting that style has to be second nature to him. Now he has to switch up his fighting style and box only which means he will have to think more when fighting and resist the urge to do anything other than box. I see it as a huge disadvantage.

Is there anyone who thinks McGregor actually stands a chance in this? Mayweather has to realize the only thing he has to gain here is money and maybe that will be enough to get him in the square circle, but I will be surprised if it ever happens.

Conor has signed. Floyd probably won't.

This isn't even close to happening right now. Remember, the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight was 6 years in the making.

Its a long shot for sure, but if McGregor somehow manages to land a few good punches he could really mess Mayweather up. Floyd doesn't get hit a lot, and he's only been hit HARD maybe a few times in his entire career, so I don't know how he would be able to handle taking punches from someone who hits as hard as Conor does. But like I said, Floyd doesn't get hit a lot. The most likely scenario for this fight is that Conor never gets any solid hits in and just gets out boxed for 12 rounds or whatever. However, if Conor manages to get some hits in and not let Mayweather play his game, I think he could really beat him (I know its not likely, but God I hope this happens...)

No, all Mcgregor has to do is get one good left in and Mayweathers ass will hit the mat faster than Rosie O'donnell hits up waffle house in the morning. Mayweather is a tit for tat guy, mcgregor has the advantage because he has fought in the UFC, he can move and much better than even the greatest boxers. He is extremely well conditioned. It will be like Ali in his prime vs Mayweather. Just watch. Mayweather will probably not sign tho, the dude is scared shitless.

You might be right, but it leads me to ask this question. Why on earth would McGregor agree to an outright boxing match, but Mayweather would not agree to a UFC match? Both are at a disadvantage regardless but if it were to actually happen, I have to put my money on Conor. He is just way too calm and down right hard hitting. Mayweather has never faced a fighter who can strike as hard as Conor can. That is his disadvantage. Mayweather is slow and takes his time, but all it would take is once or twice for McGregor to knock his ass out. Don't even get me started on how old Mayweather is.

I think you are vastly underestimating the fighters that Mayweather has fought. If this fight really does happen there is practically zero chance that Mcgregor wins it and he will probably be very badly hurt. Mayweather is a bad bad man.

Ha! Ha! Of course McGregor signed, he'll never see that kind of money in the UFC. $3 million at most usually. This fight will most certainly end his career and McGregor would be more than happy to oblige a $100 million ass-whipping, as would most of us. Mayweather would only be doing this guy a huge life changing money type favor by accepting this fight.

This does absolutely nothing for Mayweather. He's already stupid rich. This would be manna from heaven for McGregor.

I think a lot of you are underestimating McGregors striking skills. All it would take is one good left hook and Mayweather will be knocked the **** out. At least McGregor is not a pussy and will fight the guy on his terms, just hope they don't use the 10 oz boxing gloves.

Default Re: Mcgregor has inked the deal

On McGregor's side, this is a win/win. He gets PAID and if he loses, its boxing... not his primary sport. So, it's easy to dismiss both publicly and to himself.

If it does happen... most people are predicting a Mayweather decision. I see it a little different.

Connor has a puncher's chance. He has true power in his left hand and his right can do some damage as well. The only way I see Connor winning is a true knockout in the first or second round. Keep in mind, knockouts in MMA and boxing are different. In MMA, if you hurt an opponent, you can jump on them and finish them off. In boxing, they get time to recover. So, it would have to be a knock him unconscious knockout. I don't think that is going to happen for a few reasons. It's hard to hit Mayweather clean. It's only happened a few times and the times it did, he recovered. I give Connor a 10% chance of pulling off the upset.

I also don't think it is going to go to a decision. Boxing and MMA are different in regards to conditioning. Connor has been conditioning for 3 to 5 minute all out wars that involved all aspects of fighting. Hard to break that muscle memory. He will be using movement, stances and attacks that are not meant to conserve energy for the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th round. Even in his second match with Nate Diaz (a boxer first, BJJ second fighter) he was getting tired in the 3rd, 4th and 5th round. I think he will be better prepared but not as prepared as someone who has had 49 boxing style fights. Mayweather's body, mind, experience and natural strategy are all geared towards it. Again, Nate's showed that endurance and being able to stay in with Connor for the long haul can chance Connor's approach. Plus, Connor seemed to break a little against Nate. He fought smarter in the second match but still got outside of his gameplan a few times trying to put Nate away. Also, in the first fight, when he realized he was out of his element (getting out boxed and out cardioed against Nate), he dove for a takedown and seemed to give Nate a submission. Better than getting knocked out. He will not have that option here. He will have to stand and bang.

My prediction:

10% Connor knocks out Mayweather in the first or second.
70% Mayweather scores a TKO in the 6th, 7th or 8th round.
15% Mayweather wins a decision.
5% Connor gets rocked, forgets where he is and hits Mayweather with a head kick.

Personally, the last one would be my favorite.

Now... if we were talking about Mayweather in the octagon... Mayweather doesn't make it past the first half of the first round.

Boxing = 100 million
MMA = 25 million

I would wear a thong and fight with isotoners on if they paid me 100 million.

I get that you are a big McGregor fan as am I and if it were the octagon it would be over in a matter of seconds, but this is boxing. Calling Mayweather a Puss because he is not readily jumping in the ring for a gimmick so Dana White and McGregor can get a huge payday?
